Call for solutions to ongoing U-turn danger near Sungai Akar

Despite reports made to the relevant authorities and the installation of a prominent ‘No U-Turn’ sign near the Sungai Akar transfer station, vehicles coming from Mentiri continue to use the road outside the station to make illegal U-turns.

They do so to avoid waiting in line at the Sungai Akar roundabout. This behaviour has created a dangerous situation for drivers from Kampong Subok and Kampong Belimbing.

There is a downhill slope before we can exit the area and join the roundabout or turn left onto Jalan Kebangsaan. Many vehicles waiting at the ‘No U-Turn’ sign attempt to quickly swerve into our lane.

I have personally experienced numerous near-misses, despite always reducing my speed when driving down the slope, as we expect illegal U-turns.

Slamming my brakes isn’t an option, as it could cause a chain reaction of accidents behind me. While some residents honk to warn these drivers, most react angrily, as if we are th unreasonable ones.

This situation has been ongoing for years, and we are deeply frustrated. It’s only a matter of time before a serious accident occurs, and it could be fatal. We urge the relevant authorities to take action and resolve this hazardous issue as our safety matters too.
