Businesses gain insights into hiring, manpower processes

The Brunei Economic Development Board (BEDB) held its third session of the BEDB Engagement Series titled ‘Understanding Manpower Processes’ at the Main Auditorium of the Design and Technology Building in Kampong Anggerek Desa yesterday.

The event was organised in collaboration with various government agencies to provide local businesses with a clearer understanding of the processes and requirements involved in acquiring manpower, both local and foreign.

The session featured presentations from key agencies, including the Manpower Planning Office (PPTM), JobCentre Brunei (PPB), the Immigration and National Registration Department and the Department of Labour.

Designed to address common questions and challenges around workforce recruitment and management, the session aimed to equip businesses with detailed insights into each agency’s role in the manpower acquisition process. By outlining the steps involved in hiring foreign workers and highlighting initiatives, the session helped clarify the process, reduce confusion and stream-line future interactions with these agencies.

PPB and the Department of Labour provided an overview of the process for hiring both local and foreign manpower. Participants learned about key initiatives such as the SkillsPlus Programme, SPIN in Accountancy, and the I-Ready Apprenticeship Programme, all designed to support businesses in Brunei Darussalam’s evolving employment landscape.

Meanwhile, PPTM shared perspectives and initiatives to enhance local employee retention through Minimum Wage Order, 2023 and Salary Guideline.

The event concluded with a question-and-answer session, where over 150 attendees, including representatives from the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) within the BEDB ecosystem, chambers of commerce, and business associations, had the opportunity to directly engage with the agency representatives.
