BSP commemorates milestones of SCOT and TGP

Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd (BSP) celebrated the anniversaries of two of its significant onshore assets—the 50th Anniversary of the Seria Crude Oil Terminal (SCOT) and the 25th Anniversary of the Tungku Gas Plant (TGP)—at a Doa Kesyukuran event held at Pusat Insani, Seria on Thursday.

Attending the event as the guest of honour was Deputy Minister (Energy) at the Prime Minister’s Office Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Mohamad Azmi bin Haji Mohd Hanifah.

Former Hydrocarbon Processing Managers who have retired were also present, reflecting BSP’s commitment to honouring the contributions of past and present staff.

In his remarks, BSP Managing Director Johan Atema (BSP pic, left) highlighted the role of BSP’s workforce in achieving these milestones. “As we reflect on the milestones of SCOT and TGP, I believe it is the people who have driven our success and growth. Your commitment and professionalism define the organisation, enabling us to adapt and thrive over the past 25 to 50 years, and this will continue to propel us forward,” he shared.

BSP Onshore Asset Manager Hj Sufri Hj Sulaiman underscored the international significance of BSP’s products, noting their premium market value. “Today, our products such as Brunei Light, Champion, and the Seria Light Export Blend carry a premium value in the market. At least for the past 10 years, on average SCOT has loaded 100,000 barrels of crude oil for delivery to our international customers,” he said.

Also in attendance were Permanent Secretary (Energy) at the Prime Minister’s Office Hajah Farida binti Dato Seri Paduka Haji Talib and Deputy Permanent Secretary (Energy) at the Prime Minister’s Office Pengiran Haji Jamra Weira bin Pengiran Haji Petra.

SCOT, established in 1972 in Sungai Bera, began exporting crude oil in 1974, marking Brunei’s entry into the global oil market. The terminal provides facilities for crude oil collection, storage, export, water separation, dehydration, and treatment.

TGP commenced operations in 1998, serving as a vital facility for processing natural gas from offshore fields. The processed gas is distributed to power stations and industries across Brunei, demonstrating the plant’s importance in delivering cleaner and more usable energy for national development.

The celebration served as an opportunity for BSP to acknowledge the dedication and professionalism of its workforce.
