National head coach Li Hui said that the country made double history after qualifying for the tournament to participate before winning a medal for the first time. The head coach said, “The world eight top athletes are in each event in the 3rd Taolu World Cup. To be eligible to participate, they need to be in the top eight in the World Wushu Championship.”

He further added, “This is the first time that our Brunei Wushu team qualified to participate and won the silver medal, once again creating our Brunei Wushu history.

“Coach Zhao Chunjie and I are very satisfied with the two performances of our Brunei athletes after 18 years of hard work, from scratch gradually to the world stage.”

He shared that the nation’s treasures have won praise from their peers across the world adding the transformation from a relatively unknown quantity to achieving success in the world stage.

“We experienced countless ups and downs but we never gave up and finally delivered. Our Brunei Wushu team won the silver medal in the highest event.”

He concluded, “I am very proud of the athletes and I feel excited when our flag was hoisted.” – Fadhil Yunus
