Weightlifters from the Brunei Darussalam National Weightlifting Association achieved success at the Singapore Weightlifting Open 2024, securing multiple podium finishes and breaking two national records.
Muhammad Kamit clinched gold in the men’s under-81 kilogramme (kg) category, lifting a total of 273kg – a snatch of 130kg and a clean and jerk of 143kg.
His performance set new national records in the men’s under-81kg category, surpassing the previous snatch record by 8kg and the total record by 11kg.
Jurelena Juna earned a bronze medal in the women’s under-55kg category with a total lift of 154kg, comprising a snatch of 65kg and a clean and jerk of 89kg.
She shattered national records in the women’s under-55kg category, exceeding the snatch record by 7kg, the clean and jerk record by 16kg, and the total record by 23kg. Nurul Syuhaidah Ahman also secured a bronze medal in the women’s under-49kg category, lifting a total of 120kg with a snatch of 52kg and a clean and jerk of 68kg.
Debutants Zubaidah Zainoh and Adam Rayyand bin Rosland made promising starts in their first international competition. Zubaidah competed in the Masters W35, women’s under-64kg category, winning silver with a total lift of 85kg, including a snatch of 35kg and a clean and jerk of 50kg.
Adam Rayyand participated in the men’s under-67kg category but only managed a clean and jerk of 57kg after missing his snatch attempts. – James Kon
