A ceremony was held yesterday at the Language and Literature Bureau (DBP) Library in Muara to inaugurate the Ukraine Book Corner and receive a book donation from the Ukrainian Embassy in Singapore.
DBP Acting Director Dr Haji Mohd Ali bin Haji Radin emphasised the power of literature to bridge cultural gaps between Brunei and Ukraine.
He highlighted the significance of the book corner as a bridge connecting the two nations through their shared love for literature and culture.
The donated books, covering a wide range of topics such as politics, history, economy, art and culture, will enrich the DBP Library’s collection and provide readers with a deeper understanding of Ukraine’s cultural heritage and progress.
Ukrainian Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam (non-resident) Kateryna Zelenko expressed hope that the donated books would introduce Ukrainian writers to the Bruneian community.
The inauguration of the Ukraine Book Corner marks a significant step in strengthening cultural ties between the two countries.
It joins other reading corners from Bangladesh, Oman, the United States, Russia, China, India, Turkiye and Malaysia, offering readers a diverse range of literary experiences. – Fadhil Yunus
