The Information Department under the Prime Minister’s Office, welcomed two officials from Singapore for the seventh Translator Placement Programme held from November 18 to 24.
This year’s programme featured Senior Managers of the Translation Department from Singapore’s Ministry of Digital Development and Information Muhammad Fazli Hamdan and Siti Hajar Zainuddin. The officials were placed at key government agencies, including the Information Department, Radio Television Brunei, Language and Literature Bureau and Universiti Brunei Darussalam to gain insights into Brunei’s translation processes.
Participants explored the use of Jawi script in translation, deepened their understanding of local practices and fostered collaborative networks with Brunei-based translators, laying the groundwork for future partnerships.
During the programme, the participants met Acting Director of Information Siti Bismi Nuruliman binti Haji Awang Emzah to exchange views on the initiative.
The programme aimed to enhance translation skills, share best practices, and address the specific challenges of translation in diverse contexts.
Launched in 2016, the programme alternates annually between Brunei and Singapore, promoting knowledge sharing and strengthening professional ties in the field of translation. – Fadley Faisal
