Brunei-Muara District businesses under scrutiny

The Industry and Business Ecosystem Division (IBE) under the Ministry of Finance and Economy, conducted a joint operation in Brunei-Muara District to inspect business premises.

The operation involved the Weights and Measures Unit (SDT) and the Department of Economic Planning and Statistics (DEPS) through its Department of Consumer Affairs.

During the operation, SDT officers inspected 16 weighing machines used for trading purposes. All machines were found to be accurate, registered and in compliance with regulations.

DEPS issued a warning notice to one business entity for violating the Price Control Act. The company failed to display prices for several items, which is a violation of the law. DEPS emphasised the importance of clear and accurate price display to help consumers make informed purchase decisions.

Consumers are advised to ensure that weighing and measuring machines used by businesses bear a valid registration sticker issued by SDT. Retailers are reminded to update the maximum prices for price-controlled items regularly, using resources like the PenggunaBijak app and to display prices clearly and accurately. – James Kon
