Brunei kata team bags bronze at SUKMA

Brunei Darussalam added a bronze to their overall medal collection at the 21st Malaysian Games (SUKMA XXI) during the second day of competition in karate at the National Youth Skills Institute (IKBN) in Miri, Sarawak last Sunday.
 
The bronze medal came from the men’s kata team comprising a trio of Farhin Idlan Mohamad Shamrin, Muhammad Iqbal Asnan, and Muhammad Syahmi Zaffran Bakar.

The national team defeated Perak in the repechage match with a score of 38.30 points compared to the latter’s haul of 36.70 points.
 
The country contributed a total of three medals in karate including two silver in the women’s individual kata and the men’s 55-kilogram individual kumite event.
 
As of Sunday, Brunei have won one gold, two silver and two bronze, bringing a total of five medals in the fifth day of SUKMA. – FADHIL YUNUS
