The 54th Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) Governing Board (PGB) Meeting was held from November 2 to 4 at JW Marriot Absheron Baku, Azerbaijan.
Azerbaijan’s Minister of Science and Education Emin Amrullayev spoke at the opening of the plenary session of the meeting on the first day, and the meeting continued its work with a series of of sessions until November.
Representing the Sultanate was Permanent Secretary (Core Education) at the Ministry of Education (MoE) Dr Shamsiah Zuraini Kanchanawati binti Haji Tajuddin as Brunei’s PGB.
The three-day meeting was hosted by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and attended by experts from member, associate and partner countries and economies in hybrid form for the first time after the COVID-19 pandemic.
PGB meetings are held twice a year, in the first and last quarter of each year. At this meeting, a total of around 140 participants from 70 countries were present.
The meeting was to update PISA members, associate and partner countries and economies on the progress of PISA 2022 and 2025; discuss the long-term PISA strategy for 2024 to 2033 and PISA related programmes including PISA Research, Development and Innovation (RDI) Programme. The meeting also heard the experiences of PISA member countries in conducting PISA.
Accompanying Dr Shamsiah Zuraini Kanchanawati were the PISA National Project Manager (NPM) and the Head of Project Management Team under Brunei MoE-PISA Task Force from the MoE.
