Brunei, Indonesia and Malaysia Al-Quran reading contest

Six participants from Brunei, Indonesia, and Malaysia are participating in the two-day National Al-Quran Memorisation and Its Understanding Competition for Religious Councils of Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore (MABIMS) member countries Level 1444 Hijrah which began at the Muzakarah Hall, International Convention Centre (ICC), Berakas yesterday.

Three participants from Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia and Malaysia recited their respective memorisation for 10 chapters (Juzuk) of the Al-Quran.

Minister of Religious Affairs Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman was the guest of honour, Senior officers from the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MORA) and Ministry of Foreign Affairs also attended.

The event commenced with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah, followed by a welcoming speech delivered by the Head of the Public and International Relations and MABIMS Division at the MORA Haji Mohammad Albi bin Haji Ibrahim is the event’s Co-Chairman of the event.

He highlighted that the biennial competition held after a delayed implementation during the pandemic, is a commitment and close cooperation between the MABIMS Centre for Al-Quran Studies and Dissemination in Brunei Darussalam, Department of Islamic Propagation and Public Relations, International, and the MABIMS Division as the Secretariat of MABIMS Brunei.

“MABIMS is moving forward based on commitment and togetherness in achieving excellence in safeguarding the welfare of Muslims in this region.

“This is based on a strategic plan outlining four strategic focusses, namely religious education and understanding, social welfare, youth potential, and regional harmony,” said Haji Mohammad Albi.

The competition is divided into two categories – memorising 30 Juzuk of Al-Quran starting from Juzuk 1 to Juzuk 30 along with the understanding of Juzuk 24 for ages 40 and below, and memorising 10 Juzuk of Al-Quran starting from Juzuk 1 to Juzuk 10 along with the knowledge of Juzuk 10 for ages 20 and below.

The competition will continue today for participants in the memorisation Juzuk 30 of Al-Quran and understanding of Juzuk 24 category. The announcement of winners and prize presentation will be held during the National Level Nuzul Al-Quran celebration for 1444 Hijrah ceremony.
