The Brunei Darussalam national futsal team left for Bangkok, Thailand, yesterday to take part in the upcoming Asean Football Federation (AFF) Futsal Championship 2022 at the Huamark Indoor Stadium.
The national team has been drawn alongside hosts and reigning holders Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and Cambodia in Group ‘A’.
Meanwhile, Group ‘B’ comprise Vietnam, Myanmar, Timor Leste and Australia.
The Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (FABD) has also announced the official 14-member squad and list of officials.
The players are Awangku Muhammad Asadullah Shafee bin Pengiran Haji Asaduzzaman, Muhammad Nabil bin Haji Maidin, Abdul Malik Yunus, Syazwan bin Haji Hassan, Awangku Mohd Jumatatul Aleshahrezan bin Pengiran Metali, Muhammad Izzan Zamain, Awangku Muhd Amirul Haziq bin Pengiran Kamshulzaman and Mohd Zairul Hazmin bin Mohd Saifuddin.
The returning players from the previous tournament include Muhammad Abdul Khaaliq bin Haji Lazim, Mohd Aiman bin Haji Amin, Mohd Abi Syarilizam Sabtu, Mohammad Norazizam bin Roslan, Khalil Saab and Awangku Muhd Naqib bin Pengiran Timbang.
The delegation of officials will be led by team manager Haji Md Noor bin Haji Hamid, followed by head coach Haji Muhammad Abdul Azim bin Haji Zakeria, assistant head coach Pengiran Haji Kamarunsalehin bin Pengiran Kamis and Pengiran Asrul Asdynee bin Pengiran Sahdon, fitness coach Faizul Jefry bin Haji Zaini, goalkeeper coach Rozailani Hamzani bin Haji Abdul Latiff, kit manager Mohammad Khairuddin Shah Abdul Halim and physiotherapist Muhammad Aianul Nizal bin Mohd Taha as well as COVID-19 liaison and media officer Abdul Hamiz bin Haji Sahari.
The April 2-10 tournament marks Brunei’s second participation in football and futsal tournaments sanctioned by the AFF since the start of the pandemic following the AFF Under-23 Championship last February. Brunei will begin its campaign against Thailand on April 2.
