Sarawak Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin received a courtesy visit from Consul General of Brunei Darussalam in Sarawak Noni Zurainah binti Haji Ismi, together with Royal Brunei Airlines (RB) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Captain Sabirin bin Haji Abdul Hamid at his office in Petra Jaya on Friday.
In a media statement issued by the Sarawak Transport Ministry, Dato Sri Kim Shin said in the discussion, the RB CEO briefed on the airline’s future plans and proposals.
Dato Sri Kim Shin said he has applied to the Malaysian Aviation Commission (MAVCOM) to use a larger aircraft for the Bandar Seri Begawan-Kuching flight in view of the increased passenger load ahead of Chinese New Year. He added that he is still awaiting approval and asked MAVCOM representatives to speed up the process.
Among other things that were also discussed was to facilitate cross-border travel between Sarawak and the Sultanate in Sungai Tujuh between Miri and Brunei Darussalam and to look at potential areas of cooperation.
Also present during the visit were Thomas Lin from the Brunei Consulate office; Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications Officer Brunei Darussalam Rozita Khamis, Chief Assistant Secretary at Sarawak Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Desmond Jerukan; Sarawak Tourism Board CEO Sharzede Salleh Askor and Zulkarnain from Ministry of Transport.
