Braving a new learning adventure

Twelve-year-olds Muhammad Raziq Zafran bin Muhammad Amin, Adam Rafie bin Rewandi and Glen Marcus Hong Tai Fu are excited to begin a new leg of their learning adventure in Singapore.

The three, recipients of the 2023/2024 Brunei Darussalam-Singapore Youth Scholarship, will be attending schools in Singapore for their secondary-level education.

Muhammad Raziq Zafran from Jigsaw primary School said he felt it would be a huge challenge as he would be away from his parents for the next four years. “But I am looking forward to studying in Singapore because it is my dream,” he said during an interview.

Muhammad Raziq Zafran who will be heading to Ngee Ann Secondary School said he looks to become strong and adapt to the life in Singapore, despite being nervous.

He hopes to become an engineer. “I want to be a skilled and useful person for the society,” he said.

Adam Rafie from Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Primary School said he was excited to study in Singapore “because Singapore is a very cool country”.

He will also be attending Ngee Ann Secondary School.

“I am looking forward to this opportunity. I have been to Singapore several times so I am not worried about studying there.” He said he is still thinking about what he wants to do in the future.

Meanwhile Glen Marcus Hong Tai Fu from Chung Hua Middle School Kuala Belait said he was excited to have the opportunity to study in Singapore.

He said he seldom has the opportunity to go abroad, and is looking forward to the new experience.

While he feels a little worried, he previously went to Singapore for a math Olympiad so he knows a little about the country.

Glen said he wants to either be a lawyer or a scientist.

“My mother says I’m good at talking back, so I can be a really good lawyer,” he quipped. – James Kon
