ANN/THE STAR – The body of a newborn baby girl was found dumped inside a drain at Kampung Melayu Pandan on Sunday after a video of the incident went viral on social media.

Acting Seri Alam OCPD Deputy superintendent Dr Mohd Roslan Mohd Tahir confirmed the 38-second video of a newborn baby found inside the drain.

“Police received a report from a 33-year-old woman who discovered the body inside the drain at around 11.50am on Sunday. The body has been sent to Sultanah Aminah Hospital for a post mortem.

“Acting upon information, police arrested a 28-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman, also at Kampung Melayu Pandan, between 1pm and 1.30pm on the same day,” he said in a statement yesterday.

DSP Mohd Roslan added that the suspects, who have no prior criminal record between them, were lovers and worked as factory operators.

He said police seized a purple shirt and a green sarong that have spots believed to be blood from the suspects and two mobile phones. “Besides those items, police also seized dozens of pills and tablets from the suspects,” he added.

DSP Mohd Roslan said police believe that the suspects were the parents but the matter was still being investigated.
