This year the governments of Japan and Brunei have had two important high-level policy dialogues; one on foreign policy and another on defence policy. In addition, dialogues have been continuing between the Ministry of Economy and Industry of Japan and Department of Energy at the Prime Minister’s Office of Brunei to make a roadmap for pragmatic energy transition in Brunei towards carbon neutrality. The volume of people to people exchanges between the two countries are gradually coming back to the level before COVID-19 with many exchange programmes having been resumed early this year.

Furthermore, in December this year, Japan will host a commemorative summit to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Japan-ASEAN friendship and cooperation. Prime Minister Kishida of Japan very much looks forward to welcoming His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam in Japan on this occasion.

Finally, once again, I offer my best wishes to His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, and to the people of Brunei, for continued good health, happiness and peace.
