Three companies fined for littering

Hefty compound fines were issued to three companies on Thursday by the Law Enforcement Unit of the Tutong District Office for violating Chapter 30 of the Miscellaneous Offences Act (Amendment) 2021 of disposing motor oil and dumping rubbish in public areas.

One company which had violated Section 12(1)(f), Chapter 30 of the Miscellaneous Offences Act (Amendment) 2021 was issued a BND2,000 compound fine. The other company was slapped with a BND1,000 compound fine for violating Section 12(1)(b) and another received a BND500 compound fine for violating Section 12(1)(a) of the same act.

All three companies were given seven days to settle the fine.

Failure to do so will result in the case being brought to court. If guilty, they will be fined between BND2,000 and BND10,000 for the first offence, between BND10,000 and BND30,000 and imprisonment of no more than 12 months, or both, for subsequent offences.

The agency reminded the public, especially companies and commercial premise owners to maintain the cleanliness of their surroundings and not to dispose rubbish in public areas. – James Kon
