THREE companies were issued with compound fines following a random inspection conducted by the Licensing and Enforcement Section of the Brunei-Muara District Office that uncovered unscrupulous littering at the premises.
During the inspection held around areas of Pekan Muara, Kampong Serasa, Kampong Mulaut and Kampong Kilanas, Syarikat Rani Jaya Sdn Bhd was issued with a BND200 fine while Haji Basar Sdn Bhd and OT Steel Works Enterprise were each fined BND500 for littering.
All three companies were given a seven-day grace period to settle the fines and were ordered to clean up the areas. If they fail to settle the fines, further legal action could be taken in court where if found guilty, a BND1,000 fine is applicable for the first offence and for subsequent offences, a fine of not more than BND3,000 and a jail term not more than three months could be imposed.
The Brunei-Muara District Office reminded the public and business owners to ensure the cleanliness of the environment and be responsible by properly disposing off garbage to avoid the risk of environmental pollution and also in ensuring the safety of the public.
