The conservation of biodiversity is not solely the government’s responsibility but a collective duty involving every individual, community, and organisation. This was emphasised by Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism (MPRT) Hajah Tutiaty binti Haji Abdul Wahab, during her closing remarks at the Brunei Darussalam Conference on Biodiversity held at the International Conference Centre, Berakas on Thursday.
Hajah Tutiaty highlighted that recognising biodiversity conservation as a shared responsibility enables the country to identify appropriate actions and demonstrates a continued commitment to preserving natural ecosystems.

“Collaboration is essential in any initiative. There is a need to forge partnerships that will bring together diverse stakeholders, including government bodies, private sectors, non-governmental organisations, and support groups. By pooling our resources, knowledge, and expertise, we can amplify our impact and provide solutions to the multifaceted challenges we face in biodiversity conservation,” she stated.
The Permanent Secretary noted that the conference provided an excellent platform for expanding networks and encouraged continued discussions and information exchange. “This conference is just the beginning. We have a long way to go. Let us forge partnerships and further our accomplishments in attaining our common goals and objectives. We should update our networks on our achievements and future learnings. Let us showcase our successful stories and solutions to biodiversity conservation challenges, highlighting how partnership and cooperation work.”

She also congratulated the Scientific Expedition team for their hard work in Brunei Darussalam’s forests. The expedition’s critical findings underscored the vast richness and essential role of biodiversity in sustaining the ecological balance within the forests.
During the ceremony, attendees had the opportunity to listen to Thematic Session Topic 7, ‘Scientific Expedition: Exploring Brunei Darussalam’s Biodiversity.’ This session involved eight presenters, including the heads of research groups from the Scientific Expedition held from May 30 to June 8, 2024, in the Batu Apoi Forest Reserve, Temburong.
