BIBD ME keen to link up Brunei and UAE

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam met with the team from BIBD Middle-East (ME) Limited at the Expo 2020 Dubai recently.

BIBD ME is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) based in Dubai whose activities include arranging deals in investments; advising on financial products; and arranging and advising on credit.

Following the meet up with the monarch at the Brunei Darussalam Pavilion during the expo, BIBD ME is fully supportive of His Majesty’s call for increased cooperation between ASEAN and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to promote economic prosperity for the people.

His Majesty in a keynote titah during the World Government Summit 2022 in Dubai said the youth and women of today, as future leaders, will need to adapt to meet the challenges and demands of the time.

His Majesty in the titah also highlighted the importance of closer cooperation between ASEAN and the UAE especially in managing climate change.

His Majesty emphasised that peace and stability are critical for continued economic progress to secure a brighter future for generations to come.

“In conclusion, as we look to the future, I believe it is important to maintain our common resolve in ensuring a better life for our peoples and for a peaceful and prosperous world.
“The challenges of past years have highlighted the importance for governments to be well-prepared and responsive,” the monarch said.

As the focal point for BIBD Group of Companies in the Gulf Cooperation Council, BIBD ME remains committed and ready to answer His Majesty’s call and seeks new opportunities through forging relationships for the bank as well as for the business community, and fortifying existing ones. The BIBD ME team is made up of 60 per cent male and 40 per cent female Bruneians, and BIBD Group of Companies will continue to invest in our people and ensure wider exposures are given especially to the younger team.

BIBD has closely worked together and provided strong support to the Ministry of Finance and Economy (MoFE), Brunei Economic Development Board (BEDB) and DARe (Darussalam Enterprise) in the past six months of the Expo 2020 Dubai.

Prior to the World Government Summit, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah who is also Chairman of the BIBD Group of Companies toured the BIBD ME office located at the Dubai International Financial Centre.

The chairman also sat in a brief update and presentation of the BIBD ME business and operations, during the visit.

In February 2017, BIBD established a presence in Dubai through BIBD ME, an entity regulated by the Dubai Financial Services Authority (DFSA) which has granted BIBD ME with a Category 4 Licence to conduct Islamic Financial Business as an Islamic Financial Institution.
