Belait leaders join disaster management programme

Eighteen Belait District penghulus and village heads attended a disaster management programme. The closing ceremony was held at the Belait District Officer’s residence yesterday.

The workshop, organised by the National Disaster Management Centre (NDMC), was aimed at strengthening the community leaders’ capabilities to lead and build resilience in their mukims and villages against disasters.

NDMC Deputy Director Ruhaidah binti Haji Rusli attended the closing ceremony that saw a video presentation summarising the two-day workshop.

Participants were briefed on the centre and various government agencies’ functions relating to disaster and environmental management. There was also a dialogue session where participants discussed experience of past incidents.

Mukim Kuala Belait Penghulu Haji Abdul Afiq bin Zainudddin said the knowledge gained from the workshop will reduce risks during natural disasters and expressed hope the programme will be held regularly to build a disaster-resilient community.

The event saw a certificate presentation ceremony by Ruhaidah to programme participants.
