Belait beach gets makeover

Over 150 Serikandi Group of Companies (SKG) members removed washed-up trash and debris along a four-kilometre stretch of the beachfront near Silver Jubilee Recreational Park in the Belait District on Sunday.

SKG Chairman and Managing Director Shaikh Haji Khalid bin Shaikh Haji Ahmad led the beach cleaning campaign, accompanied by Chief Executive Officer Revi Bhaskaran.

The campaign was held as part of corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, Shaikh Haji Khalid said, before expressing delight at seeing over 150 Serikandi officials and their families coming together in support of keeping the nation’s coastline clean.

“The clean-up programme is merely a temporary solution; there needs to be a catalyst to help change attitudes to be more serious about environmental care and conversation. We all have a joint responsibility to do our part, individually or in groups, to ensure we protect the environment, clear shores and clean water now and in the future,” he added.

The initiative also raised public awareness on the importance of keeping the environment clean, and the impact littering has on the ecosystem.

The beach cleaning campaign was part of an ongoing initiative encouraging staff to care for the environment. Additionally, it supported the Brunei Vision 2035 goal of having a clean and green environment.
