Brunei’s men and women basketball teams received a sponsorship of official jerseys and team t-shirts from Aewon Brunei on Monday, ahead of the Borneo Intercity Basketball tournament in Labuan from April 28 to 30.
Brunei will be fielding team in all the categories for men, women and veteran.
Aewon Brunei Managing Director Lau Chai Seng presented the jerseys and team t-shirts to the Brunei Basketball Association during a ceremony at the association’s basketball court in Batu Bersurat.
Brunei Basketball Association Deputy President Lim Boon Teck witnessed the event.
“We are excited to be back at the Borneo Intercity Basketball Tournament after three years.
Our team has been preparing and we are confident of our chances,” said the deputy president.
“We appreciate the sponsorship as it is an essential part of our journey to develop Bruneian youth and Brunei basketball,” he added. Meanwhile, the women’s national team promised to do their best in the tournament.
Vice caption Florence Chin said, “Since COVID-19, we have not competed in any major tournaments. This is our first time travelling overseas to compete. We are excited and will try our best to compete.
“The players have been in training since mid-March. Over half of the team are young and fresh players who are still studying.”
The team led by coach Hong Moi Leng will play two friendly games before heading to Labuan.
