Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) yesterday celebrated the completion of emergency response training for 135 employees, reinforcing its commitment to workplace safety and preparedness.
A total of 70 employees received certification as Occupational First Aiders, while 65 completed the Fire Warden course. The training equipped them with essential skills in first aid and fire safety, ensuring they can respond swiftly and effectively in emergencies to safeguard colleagues and customers.
“This commitment to preparedness extends beyond immediate emergency response. It is part of a broader vision to cultivate a workplace that prioritises overall well-being, encompassing both physical safety and mental wellness. This is where our BIBD Wellness Ambassadors initiative plays a vital role in strengthening our holistic approach to health and safety,” said BIBD Head of Government Relations and Special Projects Haji Muhammad Yusri bin Haji Wahsalfelah in his welcoming remarks.
BIBD’s workplace safety initiatives go beyond training programmes, including regular safety inspections, installation of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs), and compliance with the SHENA Workplace Safety and Health (First Aid) Regulations 2021.
A dedicated sick bay at BIBD Headquarters further supports employee well-being.
These efforts align with global and Islamic principles, supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being and SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth. They also reflect the Maqasid Syariah objectives of preserving life and ensuring well-being. “BIBD remains committed to fostering a secure, healthy, and resilient workplace for all,” it said in a statement.
