The Magistrate’s Court on December 24 handed a six months prison and three whipping sentence to a 39-year-old Bangladeshi man for violating the Immigration Act.
The individual overstayed in the country after his immigration pass was revoked, under Chapter 15(1) of the Immigration Act, Chapter 17. The sentence stems from the results of Operasi Sepadu Trick 2, coordinated by the Royal Brunei Police Force in the Belait District.
In a related enforcement operation, the Immigration and National Registration Department (INRD) carried out Operasi Kabat 141/2024 in Bandar Seri Begawan.
During the operation, two individuals were investigated, with one foreign national detained for failing to present original documents.
The individual is suspected of violating Chapter 15(1) of the Immigration Act, Chapter 17 relating to overstaying after their immigration pass expired and Regulation 9(4) for working on a visitor pass.
The INRD continues to remind the public to adhere to the Immigration Act, and encourages anyone with information on immigration offenders to contact the department’s hotline.- Fadley Faisal
