The High Commission of Bangladesh to Brunei Darussalam marked its nation’s first ever National Expatriates Day celebration on its premises at Kampong Tanah Jambu yesterday.
High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Brunei Darussalam Nahida Rahman Shumona said the occasion, recently recognised by the Bangladeshi government, sought to give recognition to the contribution by Bangladeshi migrants in their national economy with their exchange of knowledge, skills and expertise.
She noted that there are some 15 million Bangladeshi nationals staying across 170 countries.
Yesterday’s celebration saw the high commission honour 24 persons, including 21 Bangladeshi nationals, for their contributions to various sectors in Brunei Darussalam, including higher education, health, business and culture.
Deputy Permanent Secretary (Safety and Welfare) at the Ministry of Home Affairs Nor Hamidah binti Haji Hamidon was the guest of honour.
Also present were Ambassador of Oman to Brunei Darussalam Erma Said Mohamed Samhan Al Kathiry and Charge d’Affairs at the Indian High Commission to Brunei Darussalam SDK Menonas. – Lyna Mohamad
