Congregational prayer is a significant practice in Islam, as Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) emphasised the importance of performing prayers in congregation with loved ones to gain greater rewards.
In line with this, the Imarah Division of the Mosque Affairs Department, in collaboration with the Takmir Committee of Jame’ Asr Hassanil Bolkiah Mosque, on Wednesday organised a program to strengthen family institutions through the guidance of family imams.
Held at the Jame’ Asr Hassanil Bolkiah Mosque, the program featured several sessions aimed at fostering family solidarity and unity through congregational prayers. The initiative also sought to instill a sense of community, emphasising the responsibility of followers to respect and obey the imam as a leader, while enhancing the role of mosques as centers of beneficial knowledge and spiritual gatherings.

The sessions included talks and practical guidance on the significance of prayers and congregational worship. Participants included officers and staff from the Mosque Affairs Department, members of the Muslimah group of Jame’ Asr Hassanil Bolkiah Mosque, and invited staff from the private sector.
The program was facilitated by Head of the Imarah Division Awang Haji Fansuri @ Haji Mansur bin Mohamad Ali, and Awang Ahmad Suja’ie bin Begawan Mudim Haji Metassim. They were joined by facilitators from the Muslimah Guidance Class at Jame’ Asr Hassanil Bolkiah Mosque, Dayang Rabiatul Adawiyah @ Nurul Mahfuzah binti Haji Mat Jali and Dayang Nurul Janah binti Shahbudin.
The initiative aims to revive and emphasize the practice of congregational prayers within families, aligning with the vision of creating a harmonious community under the theme “My Family, My Hope.” – Lyna Mohammad
