Demond Anthony Samin emerged the winner in the men’s open singles category of the BRKP Open 2023 after defeating Muhammad Zakiy Mubarrok 21-17, 21-14 at the Chung Hwa School Kiudang in the Tutong District recently.
Petricia Eleng Samin claimed the women’s singles title following the withdrawal of her opponent Arena Satu Samin.
Meanwhile, the pairing of Md Dzakwan and Demond Anthony won the men’s doubles category after beating Eddrall Atek and Md Yasrin 17-21, 21-11, 21-10.
Petricia Eleng also won the women’s doubles event together with her partner Adrina Anscelly, with the scores ending 21-13, 21-8 in their favour at the expense of Siti Marinah and Nuraqilah.
In the mixed doubles category, Eddrall and Adrina won without following the withdrawal of their opponents.
Other winners included Leacus Tang in the under-19 boys’ singles; Muhammad Haziq and Muhammad Izzuddin in the under-19 boys’ doubles; Sofiah in the under-19 girls’ singles; and Nurul Asyiqin and Amal Norsyazwanah in the under-19 girls’ doubles.
Lucas Ho emerged winner in the under-16 boys’ singles while Zulfazlyana Izzaty took the under-16 girls’ singles title.
Lucas Ho also beat Louis Ho in straight sets 21-15 21-15 to clinch the under-13 boys’ singles final.
Robby Ferguson and Bobby Ferguson won the under-16 boys’ doubles category after beating Shahir and Erma Farddy while Mohd Azmay bin Marji won the veteran men’s singles after defeating Omar Dani.
Permanent Secretary (Sports) at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Pengiran Mohd Amirrizal bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud presented the prizes. – Fadhil Yunus
