Artistic collaboration on display as colours come to life

Kolej International Graduate Studies (KIGS) through the Faculty of Art and Humanities organised the ‘FormARTive Exhibition 2024’ at the college’s B4 Art Studio.

Themed ‘formative art’, the exhibition is a celebration of cultural collaboration and artistic expression.

The exhibition, which opened on Thursday, will continue until November 10. It is open to the public from 9am to 4pm. Director of Culture and Arts at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Haji Awang Abdoh bin Haji Awang Damit officiated the opening.

The exhibition is also supported by the Brunei-Japan Friendship Association and local organisations.

Officials of the Japanese Embassy in Brunei Darussalam, in attendance, highlighted the strong cultural ties between the two nations.

Exhibition coordinator Ijjojji Nordin said the event, while highlighting the talents of local and international artists, provides a platform to showcase artistic expressions. “Through the contributions of lecturers, students, and invited Japanese artists, we aim to capture the journey of forming one’s identity. The exhibition is not just a display of artistic works, but a celebration of the collaboration between nations, cultures and creative minds,” he said.

The exhibition explores the concept of identity formation through diverse art forms where visitors can view a range of artistic works, including paintings, drawings, illustrations, sculptures, installation art, photography, pottery and fashion textile design as well as workshops.

It showcases contributions from 10 KIGS lecturers, five students, six fashion designers from Brunei, as well as Japanese artists Yuku Ohri, Kyoko Matsuki, Hanako Yamamoto, Yasuo Kobayashi, Kenta Mizutani, Mariko Matoba, and Tsutomu Yamamoto.
