Ambassador pays tribute to local Chinese schools

Ambassador of China to Brunei Darussalam Xiao Jianguo hosted a reception to pay tribute to the efforts of local Chinese schools in preserving and promoting the Chinese language and culture at his official residence in Kampong Kiarong on Wednesday.

The reception was attended by chairmen and principals of Chinese schools as well as representatives from local media.

The Chinese ambassador said, “The recent 74th anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China celebration was held well, with a record high attendance and a long list of performances from students of Chinese schools. I thank all the Chinese schools as well as media for the success.”

He added, “I would also like to pay tribute to local Chinese schools for their efforts in promoting the Chinese language and culture in Brunei Darussalam.

“I understand that there is a decreasing number of Chinese people in the country, therefore it is not an easy task for schools and Chinese newspapers to promote and preserve the Chinese language and culture.

“Despite the challenges, I hope that the efforts will continue so that the Chinese culture and language will be preserved to the next generation.“

Xiao Jianguo also highlighted the recent Mid-Autumn Festival celebration organised by Teng Yun Temple that showcased not only the tradition of lanterns but also traditional Chinese calligraphy. – James Kon
