In celebration of the 76th birthday of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, 76 motorcyclists made a 76-kilometre journey from Brunei-Muara to Belait yesterday.
Organised by BTOP Motors Sdn Bhd, the convoy saw the motorcyclists gathering at the parking lot of BTOP Motors at Jalan Gadong, Kampong Beribi before heading towards the Billionth Barrel Monument in Seria.
The convoy was led by Mu’adz bin Haji Abdul Hamid, who told the Weekend that the ride served to not only celebrate His Majesty’s 76th birthday but also to help raise awareness on road safety for motorcyclists.
“This convoy is also related to our ‘Zero Accident, Zero Incident’ initiative where we work with the government to help raise awareness on road safety and hopefully reduce road fatalities,” he said.
He added that it was one of the first convoys conducted this year since the lifting of pandemic restrictions.
“We used to organise convoys every year, but we were unable to do so during the heights of the pandemic. Fortunately, we can conduct more convoys across the nation once again.
“Alhamdulillah, we were blessed with good weather throughout the convoy and we completed the journey from Bandar to Belait in just under one-and-a-half hours without incident,” he said.
Having completed the journey, the convoy leader added that the group will conduct similar events in the future to continue disseminating information and raising awareness on the importance of road safety.
