Some 65 students from Lambak Kiri Secondary School participated in an HIV Awareness Programme for Peers and Youths (HAPPY) organised by the Brunei Darussalam AIDS Council (BDAIDS) Council yesterday.
The programme was aimed to raise awareness on HIV, teenage pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections (STIs). During the talk, HAPPY Project Coordinator Siti Kailene binti Mohd Jazlan Kashfi shared the latest local statistics on STIs and teenage pregnancy by highlighting the age and gender dominating the statistics.
She highlighted that abstinence can help prevent youth from engaging in risky behaviours leading to STIs or unplanned pregnancies.
The HAPPY programme is an interactive programme using audio, visuals and activities to deliver locally adapted messages to young people. – James Kon
