FM Yee Soon Wei emerged as the overall winner in the BCF Chess Rapid 2023 organised by the Brunei Chess Federation (BCF) on January 29 as the federation’s monthly activity.
Nineteen prizes were awarded to the winner including the Top 6 Open, Top 3 for Under 18, Under 16, Under 12, and Top 2 Above 50 and Best lady.
Fifty-six participated in the tournament held at Brunei Chess Centre, Hassanal Bolkiah Sports Complex.
Deputy Permanent Secretary (Policy and Strategy) at the Ministry of Defence Haji Adi Ihram bin Dato Paduka Haji Mahmud presented the prizes.
BCF Vice President, Pengiran Abdul Rahman was pleased with the participants, especially the many new young players. He said the centre is open to all players.
With the support of the Youth and Sports Depatment at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, it is hoped to develop talents through coaching.
