44 community leaders join disaster risk reduction programme

Some 44 community and grassroots leaders in the Brunei-Muara District are attending a three-day Community Leaders Programme at the Brunei-Muara District Office.

Legislative Council (LegCo) member Yang Berhormat Lawi bin Haji Lamat, the village head of Kampong Subok, LegCo member Yang Berhormat Zainol bin Haji Mohamed, the village head of Kampong Putat and LegCo member Yang Berhormat Mohamad Ali bin Tanjong, the village head of Kampong Lumapas ‘B’ are among the attendees.

The programme, which opened yesterday and ends tomorrow, is organised by the National Disaster Management Centre (NDMC) of the Ministry of Home Affairs to strengthen the capacity of community leaders in building a disaster-resilient society.

Yesterday saw participants attend a knowledge exchange workshop, where they were briefed on the functions and roles of agencies involved in disaster management, including the NDMC, the Brunei-Muara District Office, the Brunei Darussalam Climate Change Office, the Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department, the Fire and Rescue Department, and the Community Development Department.

Group activities and presentations were also held to share knowledge, providing the participants with an opportunity to develop a collaborative spirit. – Azlan Othman
