Ambassador of Turkiye to Brunei Darussalam Professor Dr Hamit Ersoy highlighted the recent oud or gambus classes at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.
“This is one of the tangible results of the memorandum of understanding signed during the state visit. The Turkish oud instructor arrived two weeks ago and he is training 40 local artistes to play oud for a month,” the ambassador said at a reception held by the Embassy of Turkiye in Brunei Darussalam at a hotel in Gadong in conjunction with Turkiye’s centenary year.
He added over 80 people attended two calligraphy workshops with world known calligraphers in collaboration with Language and Literature Bureau (DBP).
Representing the Government of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam at the reception was Minister of Education Datin Seri Setia Dr Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd Salleh.
Professor Dr Hamit Ersoy said, “This year, we celebrate the 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Turkiye and the Sultanate since the Turkish government recognised independence of Brunei and establish diplomatic relations on December 31, 1983.”
The ambassador said the relations have always been marked by excellent character and sharing strong sense of solidarity.
“His Majesty’s state visit to Turkiye on March 6-9 this year galvanised even greater cooperation between the two countries. With the signing of five agreements, in the fields of defence, bilateral consultation, culture, education and state archives, we have laid the foundation for further cooperation to flourish in the near future.”
The reception featured the cutting of the centenary anniversary cake by Datin Seri Setia Dr Hajah Romaizah and Professor Dr Hamit Ersoy.
