3-in-1 celebration at Lambak school

World Earth Day is celebrated globally to instil a sense of responsibility to preserve the environment through tree planting and creative recycling projects.

At Tunas Jaya PGGMB School Lambak, World Earth Day is celebrated annually to strengthen ties among staff, Brunei Malay Teachers Association (PGGMB) members, students and parents. The event also aims to encourage creativity among the students while being active in academics and life skills.

This was said by PGGMB Tunas Jaya Headmaster Haji Roslan bin Haji Mohd Hassan in his welcoming remarks during the World Earth Day 2023 celebration, which also coincided with the school’s 33rd anniversary and the Entrepreneurship Day 2023 at the school’s hall. 

Legislative Council member Yang Berhormat Dr Haji Mahali bin Haji Momin was the guest of honour.

He said the objective of this year’s recycling project is to get family members involved by contributing ideas and recycling materials as a team to transform the materials into an artistic creation.

The Entrepreneurship Day, meanwhile, promotes courage and determination among the students to generate their own income by equipping themselves with knowledge and experience, thus becoming more adaptable in the future, especially amid challenges.

“As the school also marked its 33rd anniversary on August 1, it pledges to continue to give the highest commitment to serving the community as an education institution offering quality education and life skills,” said the headmaster. One of the programmes the school rolled out is an outreach programme for exchange students from Unity Primary School in Singapore.

Thirty students and teachers are set to visit the school next year, while Tunas Jaya PGGMB Lambak students will visit the Singaporean school in 2025.

Meanwhile, the Sekolah Dalam Taman Project 2023-2025 kicked off yesterday with the guest of honour planting a hibiscus plant.

The headmaster also acknowledged Ganasan Subramaniam who for sponsoring two underprivileged students in the form of school fees for a year to allow them to continue studies at Tunas Jaya PGGMB Lambak.

Following the launch of the Earth Day celebration, the guest of honour cut a cake to mark the school’s 33rd anniversary and toured the exhibition as well as the Entrepreneurship Day stalls. – Lyna Mohamad
