268 complete skills training, better prepared for future

The closing ceremony for the Program Jati Diri (PJD) Cohorts 4 and 5 was held at the National Service Programme (PKBN) Training Camp in Batu Apoi, Temburong District yesterday.

Legislative Council (LegCo) member Yang Berhormat Haji Sulaiman bin Haji Nasir was the guest of honour.

Some 268 trainees comprising students under the the iSkill programme for Industrial Skills Qualification (ISQ) from the Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE) completed the 90-day PJD training.

Acting Director of Policy and Planning Division of the Manpower Planning and Employment Council (MPEC) Secretariat Pengiran Hajah Nurul Ihsan binti Pengiran Haji Damit said PJD’s objective is to increase and strengthen the integrity, discipline, responsibility and spirituality of trainees to prepare them for future challenges when entering the working world.

She added that PJD is hoped to close the skills gap for trainees to become more employable and market-ready.

She also said the continuous support, contribution and commitment from government agencies and private companies were visible from the Career Day where 12 companies from the energy, marine and construction sectors offered job opportunities matching the trainees’ skills.

Meanwhile, Yang Berhormat Haji Sulaiman said the provision of quality workforce is an important aspect of a country’s growth where the majority of the workforce are youth. Thus, efforts to shape and prepare them to become a sustainable workforce with positive attitudes are crucial and encouraged. He also hoped that upon the completion of PJD, trainees are equipped with knowledge, skills and core values to contribute to the community and industry; as well as be a role model to the future generation workforce.

There was a video presentation on the trainees’ journey and prizes handed to the best male and female trainees for overall, marching and physical categories.
