After almost three weeks of convening, the 19th Legislative Council (LegCo) session came to an end yesterday, which was adjourned by LegCo Speaker Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Lela Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Rahman bin Dato Setia Haji Mohamed Taib.

The LegCo Speaker expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the cooperation by LegCo members for the past 18 days that was carried out in harmony and mutual respect based on the Malay Islamic Monarchy (MIB) philosophy.

He also stated that the LegCo meeting has, to some extent, been able to uphold what is implied in the titah of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam during the opening ceremony, namely as a strategic platform for thinking and seeking positive impact for the country through a whole-of-government and whole-of-nation approach.

He added that the meeting has demonstrated one of LegCo’s strengths with the ability of attending Cabinet ministers openly addressing questions raised about the planning and direction of their ministries, while at the same time being ready to listen to the suggestions and views of the appointed LegCo members.

The LegCo Speaker also expressed gratitude that His Majesty’s Government is still able to provide a reasonable budget allocation for the fiscal year 2023-2024 to continue the country’s development initiatives.

“With this brief speech, in accordance to Provision 35(1) of the Legislative Council Regulations, we postpone this national meeting to a time that has not yet been set,” said the Speaker, concluding the 19th LegCo session.
