Some 142 students attended the virtual registration session for the Youth Al-Quran Reading Scheme (STAR) 2022-2023 recently.
The admission of the students was the result of an interview conducted last January. Of the 727 candidates, 142 students were accepted, with 108 students from Brunei-Muara, 17 from Belait, eight from Tutong and nine from Temburong.
The scheme was established in 1997 under Al-Quran and Dikir Recitation Unit, Advanced Education Division, Islamic Studies Department.
The scheme trains and guides youth’s Al-Quran recitation using well-known recitation styles,to produce young Al-Quran readers who have the potential to compete at the national level. The event began with the recitation of Sayyidul Istighfar and Surah Al-Fatihah, followed by a welcoming speech from Head of the Advanced Education Division Norashikin binti Haji Ahmad and a speech by the guest of honour, Acting Assistant Director of Islamic Studies (Institution of Studies) Mohd Ahsanul Azmi bin Haji Sarbini. The event concluded with the recitation of Doa Selamat.
