10-day science expedition in Temburong ends

The 10-day science expedition, themed ‘Exploring Brunei Darussalam’s Biodiversity’, concluded at Balai Raya Kampong Selapon in the Temburong District on Sunday.

Part of the findings, which involved several research projects from various disciplines, will be presented during the Brunei Darussalam Conference on Biodiversity at the International Convention Centre, Berakas, from today until Thursday.

Deputy Permanent Secretary II at the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism (MPRT) Hajah Dahliana binti Haji Aliakbar was the guest of honour at the closing ceremony.

Associate Professor Dr Rahayu Sukmaria binti Haji Sukri from the Institute for Biodiversity and Environmental Research (IBER) at Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), as a representative of the research groups, delivered a synopsis of the expedition.

The expedition ran from May 30 to June 8 at the Batu Apoi Forest Reserve in the Temburong District. Some 10 research teams, comprising 31 participants, representing local and international higher educational institutions, joined the expedition.

The expedition and biodiversity conference are jointly organised by the MPRT through the Forestry Department and UBD, in conjunction with the Brunei Mid-Year Conference and Exhibition (Brunei MYCE) 2024.

Acting Deputy Permanent Secretary I at the MPRT Noralinda binti Haji Ibrahim; Director of IBER UBD Dr Hussein bin Haji Taha; Village Head of Kampong Batu Apoi and Acting Village Head of Kampong Selapon Haji Mumtaz bin Haji Yakub also attended the closing ceremony. – James Kon
