The seventh consecutive Brunei Film Blitz is set to take place from December 1 to 13, it was revealed during a press conference at Mahakarya Institute of the Arts Asia (MIAA) yesterday.
Brunei Film Blitz Festival Director Siti Kamaluddin said, “The film blitz is the Sultanate’s longest running film festival. Entering into its seventh consecutive year, the event is a platform for independent feature films and national cinema from around the globe.”
She added, “This year’s edition is one of the biggest festivals featuring professionals from around the globe as well as competitors open to international film makers.”
Screenings will be held at the MIAA and The Mall Cineplex.
The festival programme will include new releases and retrospective titles from selected countries such as Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines. Notable directors will also participate in post-screening question and answer periods with the audience.
The film festival will also host its annual short film competition, which has two distinct categories: Open and 96-Hour Blitz.
The 96-Hour Blitz “secret ingredient” will be announced on December 6, giving participants 96 hours to produce their short films.
Domestic and international filmmakers will competed for a cash prize of BND3,000 per category. The open category will accept entries from October 13 to December 10.
Festival programmer Dr Alex Fischer said the festival will also host new programmes and events this year to broaden the educational outreach through cinematic capacity building in the local community. – Adib Noor
