Brunei Darussalam will observe Hari Raya Aidiladha on June 17 as the new moon of Zulhijjah was sighted.
In accordance with the command and consent of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, Minister of Religious Affairs and President of Brunei Islamic Religious Council (MUIB) Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman announced that the 1st of Zulhijjah 1445 Hijrah for Brunei Darussalam falls today, June 8.
The minister announced this following a meeting at the Conference Room of the Minister of Religious Affairs’ (MoRA) Office at the MoRA regarding the observation results of the moon sighting.
This year, five locations were designated: the DST Tower, Tanjung Batu and Bukit Agok in the Brunei-Muara District, Bukit Ambog in the Tutong District and Bukit Lumut in the Belait District.
Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Defence II Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof and Minister of Development Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Muhammad Juanda bin Haji Abdul Rashid were present.
Chief Syar’ie Judge Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Haji Awang Salim bin Haji Besar; Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Mohd Tashim bin Pengiran Haji Hassan; Deputy State Mufti Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Japar bin Haji Mat Dain @ Maidin; Permanent Secretary at the MoRA Haji Mohammad Rosli bin Haji Ibrahim, as well as members of the Legislative Council and MUIB also participated.
Syar’ie judges and officers of the Syariah Courts, Judiciary Department at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) along with officers from the MoRA, officers from the Survey Department at the Ministry of Development, and officers from the State Mufti’s Office at the PMO were present at the designated moon sighting locations. – Adib Noor
