A Tedarus Al-Quran and handover of Zakat funds was held at the Kampong Sungai Liang Mosque in Belait District yesterday, as part of the Brunei Islamic Religious Council’s (MUIB) efforts to lessen the burden of the underprivileged ahead of the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations.
The ceremony saw 50 individuals receive BND27,040 in Zakat funds, part of the BND18,894,594.76 collected for 15,436 recipients nationwide.
Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) Haji Mohammad Rosli bin Haji Ibrahim was the guest of honour.
Legislative Council (LegCo) member Yang Berhormat Haji Abdul Hamid bin Haji Mumin, who is the Penghulu of Mukim Liang and Acting Penghulu of Mukim Kuala Belait; Deputy Permanent Secretary (Policy and Religious) at the MoRA Haji Mohd Serudin bin Haji Timbang; Acting Belait District Officer Mohamad Yassin bin Haji Ahmed; and Acting Head of Religious Officers in the Belait District Nur Suffian bin Haji Yahya, as well as officers and staff from the MoRA also participated.
The ceremony began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah, led by the guest of honour, followed by a Tadabbur Al-Quran, led by the Religious Development Officer at the Mosque Affairs Department Haji Fansuri Sharimi @ Mansur bin Mohamad Ali.
This was followed by the recitation of Tedarus Al-Quran.
The permanent secretary distributed Zakat funds at the event.
