Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Primary School Team ‘B’ (YSHHB ‘B’) emerged champions of the inaugural Yakin Youth Inter-school Futsal Tournament at the Universiti Brunei Darussalam Multi-purpose Hall yesterday.
The newly crowned winners accumulated a total of 18 points with only a solitary defeat to seal the title. Contested in a round robin format, Panchur Murai Primary School finished runners-up after collecting 16 points while Stella’s School Team settled for third place with 14 points.
The Yakin Youth Inter-school Futsal Tournament provides a platform for grassroots players under the age of 11 to develop basic skills and help polish and produce potential players from an early age. HiTune Group of Companies Managing Director Pengiran Haji Zamri bin Pengiran Haji Bujang, during the opening ceremony, said, “The inaugural tournament marks a positive step for the Yakin Football League in shaping the mentality and applying discipline, teamwork and competitive spirit which contributes towards the formation of positive characters off the field.”
He added that organising a futsal competition at the under-11 level is seen as an important foundation in the development of futsal, seen to pioneer grassroots players up to a higher level in the future.
The meet is organised by Yakin Football League and supported by the Parents Teachers Association (PIBG) of YSHHB. – Fadhil Yunus
