Youths from across the Belait District have gained a deeper appreciation for the art of crochet through a basic programme that commenced on Friday at the Mini Youth Centre in Kuala Belait.
Organised by the PERTIWI association in collaboration with the Belait District Branch of the Youth and Sports Department, the programme aims to teach participants the fundamentals of crocheting. The training covers essential techniques, starting with weaving the crochet chain using yarn – the foundation for creating various items, including tablecloths, hats, and keychains.
Chairperson of PERTIWI, Fatimah binti Tanji, highlighted that the programme serves as preparation for the upcoming Day of Action (DOA) event in December.
“We aim to promote social entrepreneurship and youth development by equipping young individuals with new skills,” she said.
Fatimah added that the crochet items produced by participants throughout the programme will be featured in the upcoming DOA event in the Belait District.
The programme will continue every Friday until November 29. – DANIEL LIM
