Youth learn values of teamwork in three-day camp

A group of 40 youth from the Belait and Brunei-Muara districts were able to bond and learn about various life skills in the three-day-two-night ‘Kem Bina Semangat’ (Confidence Building Camp) held at the premises of the Youth and Sports Department’s building at Jalan Maulana, Belait District on August 22.

The camp, organised by the Belait District branch of the Youth and Sports Department in collaboration with Minda Youth Movement, saw youth participating in the camp and taking part in the various teambuilding games and activities.

This year’s camp is held in conjunction with National Youth Day, which saw the youth partaking in an ice-breaking session to familiarise themselves with other like-minded peers, young leaders and committee; as well as to set up tents at a nearby forest clearing located behind the building, in which they have spent the nights in over the course of the camp.

The camp continued with the youth partaking in more teambuilding and life skill-focused activities, that aim to help build confidence and instil the importance of teamwork, while also sharpening their critical thinking.

One of the participating youth from the Belait District, 17-year-old Muhammad Hazimuddin bin Samra noted that he joined the camp to make full use of his school holidays in learning new skills and friends.

“Over the course of the camp, I was able to overcome various obstacles together with newfound friends, while also appreciating the little moments such as setting up tents and making meals”, he said.

Similarly, 15-year-old Muhammad Alwafi bin Musa shared how he had a passion for camping and that the camp was another opportunity for him to experience the outdoors with like minded youth.

“In participating in this camp, I have discovered more like-minded youth who share the same passion for camping. We were able to learn essential life skills, and the importance of working together to achieve a united goal,” he added. – Daniel Lim
