Over 116 youth enrolled in a programme teaching high-tech agriculture since its first iteration five years ago.
The high-tech agriculture programme, organised by the Department of Agriculture and Agrifood, sought to expose youth to high-tech agriculture and encourage more young people to join the sector, said Acting Head of Crops Industry at the Department of Agriculture and AgriFood Mat Rusli bin Haji Abu Bakar, adding that business can be lucrative, especially with crops using high-tech systems to enhance output.
Mat Rusli said 37 youth have registered for the programme for its eighth iteration, which was launched yesterday and covers training on non-seasonal vegetable and fruits planting using the fertigation farming system. The five-day programme also briefs the participants on financial management, opportunities in the crops industry, post-harvest systems and how to market their products.
Past participants have succeeded in their farming industry like planting chili, lettuce using systems like hydroponic and fertigation, said the acting head.
