Twenty-five youth volunteers embarked on a mission to repair wooden walkways in Kampong Sungai Pandan ‘B’, Mukim Burong Pingai Ayer and Kampong Tamoi, as part of a joint collaboration between the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Singapore Association in Brunei Darussalam, marking 40 years of bilateral relations between two countries.
The volunteers, consisting of Sukarelawan Belia from the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) and the Brunei Youth Council, repaired wooden bridges in Kampong Sungai Pandan ‘B’ and Kampong Tamoi in five days, overseen by the Brunei-Muara District Office.
Head of Community and National Events at the Sukarelawan Belia Mohammad Ashmeer Imtiaz Ahmad in an interview with the Bulletin said, “Alhamdulillah, the project is a commendable initiative as it makes the walkways safer for the residents. Though it’s a small initiative, I believe every act of kindness should be acknowledged and appreciated.”
Mohammad Ashmeer added that the youth’s commitment amid the fasting month and hot weather reflected their positive attitude, and thus encourages more youth to join such community programmes.
He highlighted the strong relations between Brunei and Singapore, with an emphasis on the currency peg. He hopes to see continued strength and prosperity of the bilateral ties.
He said, “Over the past 40 years, numerous programmes have been carried out to strengthen Brunei-Singapore relations. I hope to see more exchange programmes between our countries, particularly in youth and economic development.”
