SINGAPORE (ANN/THE STRAITS TIMES) – Singaporean pianist Jessie Meng, known professionally as Jessie M, has recently joined the esteemed ranks of Young Steinway Artists, becoming the youngest recipient of this title at just 16 years old.
This prestigious recognition, awarded by renowned piano manufacturer Steinway & Sons, places her among a celebrated community of virtuosos who exclusively perform on Steinway pianos.
Jessie M, a student at Raffles Institution, now shares this distinction with other accomplished Singaporean pianists such as Abigail Sin, Mervyn Lee, and Wang Congyu.
This achievement adds to her impressive list of accolades, which began when she started playing the piano at the age of four.
Her musical journey has seen remarkable milestones, including performances at prestigious events like ChildAid, where she showcased her talent for a charitable cause.
Notably, at the age of 11, she clinched the Grand Prize in the Steinway Youth Piano Competition, followed by her representation of Singapore in the Steinway Regional Finals Asia Pacific, where she emerged as the second runner-up.
She was also a prize winner at the 2023 Lang Lang Futian International Piano Competition, and has performed at renowned venues such as Carnegie Hall in New York and the Paris Opera Bastille.
Jessie M will hold her first solo recital, Dark Stories, on March 19 at the Victoria Concert Hall. She will perform works by Liszt, Ravel, Chopin, Liebermann, Scriabin and Bolcom.
