Young Bruneian lawyers shine on international stage

The Brunei Law Society’s delegation comprising Brandon Chin Wei Chun, Lim Li Chyi, Abdul Hakim bin Ahmad Zakaria and Pengiran Ummi Taqiyah binti Pengiran Abdul Rahman, alongside their coach Kamal bin Shaari, made an impact at this year’s Essex Court Chambers-Singapore Academy of Law (ECC-SAL) International Mooting Competition held from January 4 to 9.

The 2024 edition of the ECC-SAL, known for its challenging moot problems and quality of competitors, tested young lawyers to a myriad of legal issues which encompassed contractual law, joint liability and settlement agreements.

Brandon Chin Wei Chun and Lim Li Chyi, both hailing from Yusof Halim and Partners, advanced through the ranks with strategic finesse and collaborative strength, culminating in a powerful performance propelling them to the finals.

Their journey was a testament to their exceptional legal prowess and synchronicity in advocacy, bringing to the fore the training and dedication by the Law Society of Brunei Darussalam in nurturing promising legal minds.

The feat was celebrated as a triumph for the society, reaffirming its commitment to cultivating world-class talent.

Abdul Hakim and Pengiran Ummi Taqiyah also competed with valour.

Their efforts, combined with the overall performance of their teams, underscored the strength and potential of young Bruneian lawyers.

The Sultanate proved its legal prowess by reaching the finals of the competition for the second year in a row, cementing Brunei’s position as the first international team to reach the finals of the competition in 2023, and marking the first time any international team has done so in consecutive years.
