Some 92 children aged eight to 11 in the Belait District learnt the basics of several sports during the first Big Kem Project at the Mumong Sports Complex from Friday to yesterday.
The project was organised by JCAD Enterprise in collaboration with the Belait District Youth and Sports Department and other associations including KBPiranha Swimming Team, Brunei National Badminton Association (BNBA) and the Brunei Darussalam Tennis Association (BDTA), who led the camps for swimming, badminton and tennis with the Belait District Youth and Sports Department leading the athletics camp.
Legislative Council member and Penghulu of Mukim Bukit Sawat Yang Berhormatm Haji Mohd Salleh bin Haji Othman attended as the guest of honour.
The children learnt the basics of each sport and participated in games that provided them with a comprehensive and dynamic sporting experience. The activities also helped to foster a sense of friendly sportsmanship, teamwork and competitive spirit.
The event also saw the guest of honour present souvenirs to the children and coaches.
Big Kem Project hoped the first camp had galvanised an interest in popular sports among the youth in Belait.
It is also planning future camps that will focus on other sports including pencak silat, wushu, table tennis, taekwondo, karate and fencing. – Daniel Lim
